Mansfield Sporting Arms

Shipping/Transfer Questions

1. Can I ship guns to the store?

Yes. Guns can be shipped directly to our addresses. We recommend you call in or email us to let us know you have something coming in the mail.

2. Do I need to have something shipped directly to a gun shop, or can I send something directly to a friend?

Per the ATF Website,

May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?

A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another state. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of their own state or to a licensee in any state.

The U.S. Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms.

Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. (Most private carriers require handguns to be shipped directly to an FFL.)

3. Will there be a background check if I/someone comes to pick up a delivered firearm?

Yes. All firearms that come into any of our shops are logged within our A&D book, and must either go to an individual that has successfully passed a Federal NICS background check, or to another FFL dealer.

4. What do I need to bring for a background check?

You must bring a valid, non-expired Ohio license to the store. If you are out of state, we can only transfer long guns to you. Handguns must be shipped to your states local FFL.

If you have two differing addresses, bring another form of identification that is current, and shows your current address.

The rule of thumb is if you have different addresses, or differing information on any of the forms, bring additional paperwork stating your address.

We understand this can be confusing at times. Always feel free to call and ask questions.

5. How long will the background check take?

It depends. We can receive an immediate response, or it may be “delayed” which can take several weeks.

We don’t know why, who, or what determines the decisions in background checks to either proceed or deny an individual.

If you are under 21, you will be automatically delayed for 10 days.
